Analysis of the Obstacles to Innovation in Bolivian Companies

The objective of the study is to identify and analyze the degree and mechanisms by which financial and non-financial obstacles limit: i) the propensity to innovate, ii) the intensity of innovation and / or iii) the productivity of manufacturing and service companies in Bolivia, as well as identifying strategies to mitigate the effect of these obstacles.

For this purpose, the first business innovation survey in 2016 will be used, based on the OECD's OSLO Manual, which is comparable to similar surveys carried out in different Latin American countries.

The methodological strategy includes quantitative and qualitative techniques; the quantitative techniques based on Crespi (2012, 2016) and Pellegrino & Savona (2013), are applied in three stages, each allowing the degree to which financial and non-financial obstacles interact to limit: i) the propensity to innovation, ii) the intensity of innovation and iii) the productivity of companies. Qualitative techniques allow identifying possible actions to reduce the limiting effect of obstacles to innovation. The expected results are: i) a detailed description of the state of innovation in Bolivia, ii) consistent quantitative models to identify the effects of interest and iii) suggestions for possible actions to mitigate the effects of the obstacles detected.
