COLLECTION OF INFORMATION FOR ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE OF INNOVATION, SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY OF COMPANIES IN BOLIVIA

Bolivia, like the rest of the countries in the region, faces great challenges to close the productivity gaps and manage to maintain the growth rates of the last decade. One of the key aspects to boost productivity has to do with the degree to which countries manage to incorporate knowledge into their production processes.

In Bolivia, there are currently low levels of investment in innovation, both public and private, and there is no information on the innovative activity of companies. Innovation surveys are key tools for gathering information on innovation practices implemented by companies, which are an essential element of strategies to improve productivity in the private sector and have never had an innovation survey.

At an international level, there are surveys and analytical methodologies from organizations such as the OECD that facilitate the international comparability of the results of these surveys, focusing on the manufacturing and services sectors.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) through the Competitiveness and Innovation Division has recently been supporting the development of similar surveys in countries such as Peru, Guatemala, Paraguay, Uruguay and has a long history of strengthening the survey and calculation of science indicators , technology and innovation in the region. In order to deepen the analysis of the innovative performance of the Bolivian productive sector, it is necessary to collect these data for the first time (information that may interest you about work carried out on the subject can be found at www.iadb.org/innovation). The baseline for this study is carried out by the CEGIE of the Universidad Privada Boliviana (UPB).
