STUDY OF THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN BOLIVIA: METHODOLOGY AND MEASUREMENT

This document presents the methodology with which a Quality of Life Indicator (LCI) of households in the country was developed. The methodology is based on the decomposition by main components for qualitative variables. The description of the methodology allows a better understanding of the scope and limitations of the results obtained. Previously, the construction of the database that will contain the information used is explained. The indicator obtained can be prepared on an annual basis, it has information on the characteristics of the home and the surrounding environment (neighborhood / geographic area / department). This indicator contains information on the quality of life of households, unlike other indicators that only include information on living conditions. The results obtained show that the quality of life in the department of Santa Cruz is the highest in the country, both in urban and rural areas. On the contrary, Potosí is the department with the lowest quality of life in the country. Observing the extreme results, on the one hand, at the urban level there is a group of departments in which the quality of life is high with respect to the national average, these are Santa Cruz, La Paz, Cochabamba, Chuquisaca and Tarija, in descending order. On the contrary, in the rural area of the country, the group of departments with the lowest quality of life is made up of Chuquisaca, Beni, Oruro, Potosí and Pando, in descending order.
