Road Lighting System with Energy Efficiency based on SmartGrid Technology

In this project, a functional prototype of an intelligent road lighting system with motion detection (cars and / or people) will be developed to optimize energy use using SmartGrid technology. In the project, solar energy (LED and photovoltaic technology) will be used efficiently, thanks to sensors and intelligent components (hardware) developed in the project. The communication protocol (firmware) will also be developed to allow wireless communication between the components, to regulate the light intensity as cars or people travel the road. The electronic control system will be powered by energy generated by a photovoltaic road lighting system, and a remote update system will be developed with embedded systems.

The prototype will be installed on the Cochabamba UPB campus and system tests will be carried out under real-life conditions on a small scale. The electronics will be developed in SUPSI-Switzerland, and the solar energy part and the integration with embedded systems at UPB.
