Characterization of radiometeorological parameters based on multi-year measurements of zenith tropospheric delay and rain rate

In this collaborative project, the Radiocommunication Laboratory cooperates with researchers from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in research in the field of radiopropagation. In particular, one of the lines of interest is the application of GNSS Meteorology in satellite radiopropagation experiments, especially with the Alphasat Q-band experiment being carried out in Madrid.

To do this, we analyze the zenith tropospheric delay (ZTD) databases of the IGS and EuREF from which it is possible to estimate the content of integrated water vapor and the attenuation due to water vapor at different frequencies and elevation angles. In the framework of this cooperation, second-order statistical studies are also carried out using beacon, rainfall and 0 ° C isotherm measurements.
