Civil and Environmental Engineering Research Center

The Center for Research in Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIICA) is the research unit of the Private Bolivian University in charge of carrying out scientific and applied research tasks to contribute to the technological advancement of the Country and the controlled region in sustainable development.

Creation date

August 2004, Rectoral Resolution No UPB-RR-012/2004

Lines of investigation

The main lines of research that CIMOC will develop are framed in the following areas:

Geotechnics and Innovative Materials Area:
§ General geotechnical and mechanical soil engineering for road engineering
§ Soil-structure interaction
§ New concrete technologies
§ High resistance concretes including synthetic fibers, pellets, and combination with metals

Structures and Civil Works Area:
§ Prestressed concrete
§ Dynamic analysis and numerical simulation of structures
§ Experimental analysis of structures
§ Nonlinear analysis of concrete and masonry structures

Water Resources Area:
§ Water balance at continental, regional, national and basin levels taking into account climatic and social changes.
§ Numerical simulation of hydrological models of variable spatio-temporal variation of the decrease.
§ Optimization of the operation of hydraulic structures for early warning to support decision-making during excesses or leaks of water flows.

Environmental Engineering Area:
§ Control and audit in the environmental aspects related to the construction of public works and buildings.
§ Studies of evaluation of environmental impacts of public works and buildings.
§ Interaction with models of water quality, sediment transport and heavy metals.
§ Technical support for updating quality standards in water, soil and air.

Objectives

CIICA's main strategic objectives are:

1. Carry out applied research in programs and lines of national and international priority, structured around the design and construction of civil works, water resources, construction materials and environmental impacts of large public works

2. Contribute to the technical and economic improvement of civil works in the country through the use and adaptation of scientific and technological advances in the world and the generation of knowledge of regional application in: new materials, new design methods and construction efficiency. civil works.

3. Contribute to the quantitative and qualitative improvement of the training and performance of human resources in the areas of Civil, Sanitary, Industrial, Production, Architecture, Hydrology and other related areas, by conducting formative research and applications for consolidation. on the excellence of the UPB's undergraduate, graduate and continuing education programs.
