Center for Research in Civil and Environmental Engineering
Description
The Center for Research in Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIICA) is the UPB research unit dedicated to the development of scientific and applied research, aimed at contributing to the technological advancement of the country and the region, under principles of sustainable development.
Research areas
Geotechnics and Innovative Materials Area: geotechnical engineering and soil mechanics applied to road infrastructure, soil-structure interaction, and the development of new concrete technologies, including high-strength concretes.
Structures and Civil Works Area: research in prestressed concrete, dynamic, experimental, and nonlinear analysis of concrete and masonry structures through numerical simulation.
Water Resources Area: studies of water balance and hydrological modeling considering climate variability, as well as optimization of hydraulic structures for early warning systems.
Environmental Engineering Area: assessment and control of environmental impacts in civil works, modeling of water and sediment quality, and technical support for the updating of environmental standards.
Institutional focus
CIICA promotes applied and educational research to strengthen the technical quality of civil works and the training of human resources in engineering and related fields, contributing to the academic excellence of UPB.
