The historic business leader and founder of the UPB reached a century of life last July 4. The official tribute ceremony was held on Monday, July 6, at the Cochabamba campus, which bears his name in his honor.
In an event of profound institutional relevance, Eng. Fernando Campero Prudencio, President of the Board, and Oscar Molina, Ph.D., Rector of the UPB, announced the inauguration of the facade of the "Julio León Prado" Library. The event is part of the celebrations for the 100 years of life of its founder, Past President, and benefactor, Julio León Prado, who reached a century of life on July 4th.
The protocol ceremony was held on Monday, July 6th, at 11:30, at the JLP Campus in Cochabamba. The highest authorities of the university, leaders of the private sector, the academic community, and special guests participated, in tribute to one of the great references of corporate and educational development in Bolivia.
Born on July 4, 1926, Julio León Prado has consolidated one of the most influential trajectories in the economic history of the country. A civil engineer by profession and philanthropist by conviction, he founded the BISA Financial Group, one of the most solid financial and industrial conglomerates in Bolivia, a holding of companies such as Banco BISA, BISA Seguros, and the main investment fund administrator, among others. He has chaired the BISA Group for more than four decades, remaining to this day at the helm of its strategic guidelines.
His commitment to Bolivia also extended to higher education. In the early 90s, he was one of the main promoters and founders of the UPB, presiding over its Board during a key stage of institutional consolidation. In recognition of his support, the Cochabamba Campus and its Central Library bear his name, whose new facade was inaugurated today.
The new infrastructure symbolizes the permanence of the legacy of León Prado: a space at the service of knowledge and the future generations of leaders of the country.
