ANALYSIS OF THE ECOLOGICAL PRODUCTS MARKET IN COCHABAMBA

Bolivia shows a favorable situation in laws enacted for organic farming, such is the case of Law 3525 "Law of regulation and promotion of ecological non-timber and agricultural and forestry production", Law 453 "General law of the rights of users and users and consumers and consumers "that with the creation of the Vice Ministry of Consumers regulates healthy consumption through" Living Well ", Law 300" Framework Law on Mother Earth and Integral Development for Living Well ", and the Law Nº 144 “Productive Community and Agricultural Revolution”, among others (INE-Bolivia).

Additionally, public and government institutions, civil society organizations and social movements have taken strength to promote healthy eating and work for the application and enforcement of these laws, although their impact is still small and their efforts are disjointed. The actions are focused on increasing the consumption of organic products, which can have a direct effect on their production, thus giving their producers an opportunity.

There are many obstacles that the production of these foods must face: difficulties in accessing circulation spaces, the influence of intermediaries in the markets, increasing imports of fresh food, etc. However, to face these problems, although still in a limited way, networks of small organic producers have been created that try to open up space in the markets favoring a direct relationship between consumers and producers, seeking access to certifications of their production, informing to the population about the health benefits of these products, etc.

Thus, within this juncture, the AGRECOL Andes Foundation and the Center for Economic and Business Research (CIEE) of the Private Bolivian University, have joined forces to understand more deeply the reality of the production and consumption of organic food in Cochabamba , with the support of the McKnight Foundation, through a three-year project, whose main objective is to ensure that the circulation spaces of these foods grow and be sustained over time, especially for the benefit of producers and consumers with limited resources Cochabamba.
