UPB researchers awarded in the Plurinational Prize for Science and Technology 2016

On November 29 and 30, 2016, the 3rd version of the Plurinational Prize for Science and Technology was organized in the city of La Paz, organized by the Vice Ministry of Science and Technology, where a hundred research projects participated.

The UPB received two recognitions in the categories of "Industrial Transformation" and "Health and Drug Industry", the latter carried out in collaboration with the Universidad Mayor de San Simón (UMSS).

 


The Project “Spectrometer based on smartphones and a low-cost kit for transmittance and absorbance measurements: Focus on the measurement of chromium in tanneries”, obtained 2nd place in the Industrial Transformation category. This project was carried out by researchers Omar Ormachea Ph.D., Alex Villazón Ph.D., Ramiro Escalera Ph.D., Ing. Miguel Carballo and Grover Zurita Ph.D. In collaboration between the Center for Optical and Energy Research (CIOE), the Center for Research in New Computer Technologies (CINTI) and the Center for Research on Industrial Processes (CIPI) of the Private Bolivian University.

The Project "Low-cost Fluorescence Microscopy, based on mobile and embedded systems for the diagnosis of infections diseases: Focus on Chagas disease" received the honorable mention in the category "Health and Drug Industry". This project was praised for being the result of a first inter-university scientific collaboration between public and private universities. The researchers participating in the project are Omar Ormachea, Ph.D, Alex Villazón Ph.D. (CIOE and CINTI - UPB) and Patricia Rodriguez Ph.Dc, Mgr. Amilcar Flores and Pedro Surriabre Ph.Dc (Institute of Biomedical Research - IIBISMED - UMSS).
