Biofuels- Obtaining biodiesel- Phase I

Bioenergy or biomass energy is a type of renewable energy from the use of organic and industrial matter formed in some biological or mechanical process. The use of biomass energy is done directly (for example, by combustion), or by transformation into other substances that can be used later as fuel or food. In Bolivia, there is an important plant biodiversity. Around 20,000 vernacular species (plants with a whole body) are reported where the families of legumes, cereals, pseudo-cereals, solanaceaes, asteraceaes ... Some of these families present species that can be used for the generation of biofuels. In order not to compromise the planet's food source, the agroindustrial residues of these nutritional species can be processed into biofuels or new non-food sources can be sought. A biofuel that has had a stable production in recent years is biodiesel with a production of 29.12 million tons in 2014. In the first phase of this project we intend to study non-food species or agricultural waste as a source of biodiesel. A series of trees and palms will be selected to study the seeds of their fruits and their attributes as biodiesel.
