Bolivian cinema and nationalism

Since the founding of Bolivia, as a sovereign nation-state, as a republic, intellectuals and political actors have tried to define it, understand it. The attempts, the approaches and the points of attention are varied and complex. In this spirit, it is necessary to rethink the different forms of nationalism that have manifested themselves throughout our history. Specifically, this research seeks to analyze the national film tradition in search of a characterization of different nationalist discourses that can be traced in our visual memory. Well, if national cinema has felt a responsibility, it is to try to define what Bolivia is. Different filmmakers have expressed their vision of the nation and what they believe the nation should be. Are there national projects in feature films produced in our country? Probably not. Which is not to say that it is not possible to trace a set of ideas that allow us to unravel and understand the different visions of the country that have developed throughout our film tradition.
