Hydrological simulation for the water balance of the Valle Alto-Cochabamba basins

The Valle Alto area is one of the driest areas in the central region of Cochabamba and with the decrease in rainfall in recent years the problem of lack of water is even more pronounced. Once the Misicuni multiple project is completed, it will be available to the waters of the upper valley stored behind the Angostura dam, so it is necessary to have data to be able to efficiently and sustainably manage the water resources of the area.

It is proposed:

Set up a distributed hydrological model of the upper valley basin, with this having the water balance of the study area, scenario analysis and issuing recommendations for efficient and sustainable water management.

In order to comply with the proposed, the following specific objectives are intended to be met:

Carry out the delineation of the main basin of the upper valley, which contributes to the Angostura dam.
Collect and verify necessary data for a geo-morphological, hydrological and social analysis of the basin.
Set up the model by formatting the input data for the model.
Perform the calibration and validation of a distributed hydrological model that best suits the upper valley basin.
Carry out, analyze and evaluate simulations of future scenarios that may be presented in the study area and propose guidelines for the comprehensive management of the basin taking into account the Valle Alto Master Plan.
This study is coordinated with the Departmental Watershed Service of the Cochabamba Governorate. The estimated duration period is 8 months, from December 2018.
